For conspicuous gallantry in action:

AT SHENAM on the night of 12th-13th May 1944, the enemy succeeded in occupying a small feature inside D Company perimeter on the saddle between the SCRAGGY HILL and MALTA positions. On this feature was a bunker from which it was though an Light Machine Gun could be brought to bear on the road beneath, thus blocking the road for the evacuation of the wounded. After daybreak, although warned of the danger, the Rev. McCLINTOCK immediately volunteered to attempt the journey in order to evacuate wounded back to the RAP.

He succeeded, and was the first person to enter the position whilst the fighting was still in progress. From then until midday when the enemy was driven off by a counter attack, he was constantly up and down the road which was under fire. He obtained sling stretchers and ropes, and personally supervised the lowering of casualties down a 30 foot cliff on to the road. On the position itself, he carried out magnificent work in getting in casualties, without a thought for his own safety, although in the open and under heavy shell fire.

On on e occasion there was a man believed to still alive in an exposed position not 15 yards from a Japanese occupied bunker,. Although knowing that four men had already been hit trying to drag this man to safety, he made a fifth attempt and succeeded in getting a rope round the man's legs. Throughout the whole action, is courage and conduct were not only responsible for saving the lives of many of the wounded but were a source of inspiration to all those around him engaged in the fighting.
