Hello, I am researching movements and battle locations of 123 LAA Regt RA, from landings on Sword or deployments onwards towards Harburg area of Hamburg. Map details and associated units would prove interesting, any assistance appreciated.
Dermot, the war diaries from the National Archives should be useful to you. Here's the ones from 1944 onwards: *** ARCRE WAR DIARY SEARCH RESULTS *** WO 171/1137, 123 Regt. (1944 Jan.- Dec.) WO 171/4962, 123 Regt. (1945 Jan.- Dec.) WO 171/9126, 123 L.A.A. Regt. (1946 Jan., Feb.) (Downloaded from ARCRE War Diary Search Engine: Arcre - War Diary Search Engine - 2011-11-21 12:19 GMT) Lee
Hi Dermot & welcome. I have already copied the 123 LAA war diary for myself for June to December 1944. You can download it from my photobucket account. 123 LAA REGT - 1944 pictures by rahonour3947 - Photobucket Enjoy Regards - Rob
405 & 409 Batteries arrived earlier than RHQ and have their own war diaries for June. Link to 405 Bty War Diary (These are very feint as they were written in light pencil. I have enhanced them as best as I could). Both units landed at Ouistreham. 405 BTY 123 LAA REGT JUNE 1044 pictures by rahonour3947 - Photobucket Link to 409 Bty War Diary. I have my Dad's personal diaries for parts of 1944 and 1945. He served in the 123 LAA Regt, and its predecessor, throughout the war. The diaries do not say much but do give information about where he was when. He did not embark for France until July 14th, so obviously was not part of 405 or 409 Batteries. I have transcribed the diaries into a Word file, and could let you have this if you are interested. There are some personal details included, which I would not want to be publicly available.
