    Hi

I am trying to find out about 10th Indian Field Regiment. According to Farndale it was a Reserve or Training Regiment which was raised 15 July 1943 and was part of 14th Indian Infantry Training Division, It was based at Chindwara. Lt Col TWM Johnson was the OC. It was disbanded in 1946.

The only mention I can find of it is in 'The calling of a cuckoo' as David Jenkins (the author) was an officer in it - although I haven't read the book.

I can't find a War Diary listed in Discovery for Kew.

Any other info or suggestions on where to look much appreciated!

    Happy New Year

The 10th Indian Reserve Field Regiment first appears on India Command orders of battle on August 23rd, 1943 under the 14th Indian Training Division. It was still under command on February 19th, 1946. It was used to train Indian Artillery recruits for service in Burma. It remained at Chindwara for the the entire war.

Many thanks Dryan. Do you know whether units such as this would have a War Diary?

A search at the National Archives website under WO 172 - British and Allied Land Forces, South East Asia: War Diaries, Second World War did not turn up any war diaries for the 10th Reserve Field Regiment, Indian Artillery.

As David has found, there is no war diary at TNA for the 10th Reserve Field Regiment, Indian Artillery. I have an interest in Indian artillery and also searched for the anti-tank and the anti-aircraft artillery regiments assigned to the 14th Indian Training Division. I haven't found a diary for the 16th (Punjab) Reserve Anti-Tank Regiment but I did find a diary for the Reserve Mobile Anti-Aircraft Regiment, R.A. This was for the period August-December 1943, WO 172/2346.

The A.A. Regiment, unlike the field and anti-tank regiments, appears to have trained both Indian and British gunners for both Indian and British regiments..

Nor have I found a diary for the 14th Division itself. There is a report on the activities of the Division held by The National Army Museum but this holds only the briefest of details for OB researchers.

Many thanks David and Steve for your input - even if it doesn't really take me any further forward!

Other thoughts are to see if there is any mention of the 14th Division in the series of books edited by Prasad on The Indian Army in the Second World War

Here are what few details are contained in the report held by the National Army Museum on the activities of the 14th Division.
