    My father was in a ditch, a seemingly empty factory in front of him. All was quiet and not a little tense.

    Major Tyler came over and casually settled beside him in the ditch.

    “Everything all right Corporal?”

    “Yes sir, why sir?”

    “Well, I was just wondering - why are all those windows are still intact?”

    My father shot out each pane of glass in turn with short bursts from his Bren.

    “That’s much better! Good work. Carry on.”
