Continuing with Mike Simpson inspired CMP's, I have had an assembled Milicast 13 Cab 6 wheel chassis in my stash for some time having borrowed the gantry body to add to a Leyland Retriever some time ago. I was looking at scratch-building a large engineering body to go on it but discovered the spare wheel assembly is cast in place on the cab back and chassis and would be difficult to remove without damage. As I could find no photos of 13 Cab 6 wheelers with the spare behind the cab, I did find some photos of an Ambulance body on a 158" WB chassis with the spare behind the cab. I happened to have a spare Cromwell Ambulance body at hand, so I decided to remove the rear part of the chassis and add a new frame with axle and suspension to a 158" WB. Another feature was the rear steps which slid between the frame members under the rear doors. I added that also. Here is the result so far, a bit of a cross-kitting, scratch-building mish-mash but I think it's passable. It's all just set together for the photo and along with the Chev C60 L GS will be painted soon. Cheers, Neil
Thanks Clive, Miguel and Tom for your nice words and thanks also to Mike Simpson who was kind enough to quietly mention that Fords did not have the radiator overflow on the nearside, only the early Chevs. It is now devoid of the device and suitable cleaned up. Milicast got it wrong as well as it was on the model and it is labeled as a Ford F60L. Additionally, Dave Rhodes who mastered the Ambulance for Cromwell mentioned that he messed up on the roof vents in that he had only two....it now has the requisite four. Thanks to both for their ensuring I do a reasonably correct model. Cheers, Neil
Hi Neil, another great build. Everyday is a school day on these forums - its all great stuff; regards TED
I recently finished the Ambulance I posted progress photos of earlier, so here are some photos of the finished product. It features mirrors and a figure (with a head swap) from Dan Taylor Modelworks, a Milicast 6x6 chassis converted to a 4x4 (158" WB) and a Cromwell Ambulance Body. It is marked up as a vehicle of the 15th Field Ambulance of the 4th Cdn. Armd. Div. as might have appeared in Germany in 1945 with decals custom made by Pete Marshall, Aleran. Cheers, Neil
Nice paint job. Deceptively simple. I really like the pave as well. Very noisy to drive over I recall. Mike
Great model, as is your hallmark. It certainly looks the part and I too think the German style stone sets look excellent. Are they Faller HO by any chance?☺ Regards Tom
Thank you Clive, Mike and Tom for the kind comments. The cobblestone is something I just bought and tried and I quite like it. It's Heki HO Romanesque Plaza pattern and comes in a 9.5"x19" roll and has a self adhesive backing, so will do a number of vehicles. I got mine from Scenic Express and it's quite reasonably priced as well. Cheers, Neil
