    Hello,

Im trying to find out details regards the 19th Battalion Homeguard DLI. My grandfather Horace Rennison enrolled in the Local Defence Volunteers as it was known 1st July 1940. Being a fireman at the local ICI factory he was in a reserved occupation.
He was discharged 5th November 1944 to join the RAF.

We had no knowledge of my grandfathers time in the homeguard until trying to research his RAF time.

Can anyone help me with finding out what this Battalion may have done during the war.

    Thanks in advance

    Dave welcome to the forum
re his Home Guard service see here Request Home Guard service records

    "
Information contained within the Home Guard records is very limited. With a few exceptions it normally consists of one double sided A4 sheet of paper (Army Form W3066) containing personal details on enlistment and very little else. No details are held of the duties performed by an individual during his service.

All information contained in the Home Guard records will normally be provided in full. The scheme allows for information in these records to be exempt from the general provisions of the Freedom of Information Act by virtue of section 21(1) of the Act (information accessible to an applicant by other means)."

The W3066 forms for the DLI Home Guard are up on line at the National Archives. Here I believe is Horace's form, as Clive says not a lot of information on there I'm afraid:

Thanks Bamboo43. That is my grandfather. I managed to get a copy of the form when back tracking his very short time in the RAF.

No worries, sorry it was nothing new for you. I only knew about the DLI Home Guard records at the National Archives because my great Uncle Tom Bussey served with the 20th Battalion (Darlington). Good luck going forward.
