Hi All. After the end of WW2 my father went into the Admiralty Constabulary for the Midlands and South Wales area, he was with them from November 1945 till May 1954, does anyone know where or who i could contact to see if there is any information still held regarding his time with the Constabulary. Thanks for any help.
There are a number of files at The National Archives which may be of interest - you would need to search through obviously Search results: admiralty constabulary | The National Archives I guess somewhere he may have a service record - but where that is held ?? Its something I hadnt heard about - so a forerunner to NCIS?? TD
I would suggest the successor organization to the Admiralty Constabulary is the place to start, though they are the Ministry of Defence Police. There is a contact option for them via: Ministry of Defence . Wiki shows they took the three non-military police functions over in 1971: Ministry of Defence Police - Wikipedia and a little more: Admiralty Constabulary - Wikipedia It might be worth searching to see if there is a related history society, Facebook group etc.
Hello States 2nd October 1949 the Admiralty Constabulary came into being before that they were Royal Marine Police/Royal Marine Police Reserve/Admiralty Civil Police https://british-police-history.uk/f/royal-marine https://british-police-history.uk/f/admiralty Might be worth contacting them for more info and advice regards Clive
I have tried emailing the British police history but have had no reply, any idea if this site is still functioning? or who else i could contact regarding the Admiralty Constabulary.
The site has been recently updated with the Spring 2021 Journal so I would suggest yes. Possibly working with reduced resources?
Just thought i would update on this, after several weeks of sending emails back and forth to the West Mercia Police, the MOD Police and then the People Services who asked for my fathers death certificate, his date of birth, my full birth certificate and a next of kin form because they hold the archives.......to finally be told that they destroy all archive material about ex service personnel after 100 years from their date of birth, i was horrified to learn this, surely it would make more sense to be 100 years from when they finish their service, so gone has any chance of finding out any information regarding my Dad's time in the Admiralty Constabulary and even more annoying is the chance of any photos they might have had with him on.
