Hi, I can see that this forum hasn’t been updated in a good few years, however I just wanted to say thank you. This forum has helped my family to understand what had happened to my great grandfather in the Second World War. It was a little bit of a family mystery and it has now been solved. Gunner Gaybriel Ellis was 44 I believe, so we struggled to understand why he was there, not just because he was buried in cassel but also his age should have had him off front line. If you have any additional information regarding my great grandfather please feel free to send it my way as it would be much appreciated. My email is jellisscarecrow@aol.com. Thank you.

One day I would like to take my aunt to visit his grave. I don't know much about what happened to him but have more information from this thread. I just wondered why some of the men were buried in different cemeteries. Thanks for the information in the thread.

Discovered this new film (with 800k views since 2nd June) by Mark Felton yesterday and it refers to the Germans holding onto Dunkirk till the VE surrender (well the next day) and an attack they made in April 1945. Mark's summary:
    Link:

Quite interesting documentary on an overlooked episode in WW2, although I think much of the footage comes from other places than Dunkirk. There is no mention of this thread's theme though.

An old thread but worth a mention, thanks to Lee@arcre have just received an Order of Battle for Line of Communication dated 26 Apr 45.

Can confirm the following RA units converted to infantry were under command 1st Czechoslovak Armoured Brigade in the Dunkirk Sector as at 26 Apr 45:

600th (5th Battalion Duke of Wellington's) Infantry Regiment RA
601st (West Yorkshire) Infantry Regiment RA
    608th (Welch) Infantry Regiment RA
612th (South Lancashire) Infantry Regiment RA

It appears 17 AGRA took over from the 1st Czechoslovak Armoured Brigade with HQ in Wormhout south of Dunkirk, help would be appricated as dates and records are incomplete.

21st Army Group later British Army of the Rhine (under construction)
