    Ah good spot.

I think the AA gun in the back is a 20mm Breda 20/65 mod. 35 and the MGs are Bredas (one on passenger side and one being handled in the back) - which is why I thought Italian.

Considering the amount of Italian troops on that front it is not a surprise. It is Italian weapons in the truck. Would be interesting to see if that unit marking is Italian or British. Because it looks like it retains the red white red markings.

Gary, #17 any idea what is the light coloured fitting in the muzzle of the machine guns. Are they ferrules? Have they been disabled to prevent their use.
There was a ban on using enemy vehicles and equipment soon after the surrender due to accidents. It looks like the vehicle has received the attention of the REME teams.
They are obviously having light hearted fun during the photo session.

I'm afraid not. My Grandad was the senior NCO in 6 Cheshire's LAD so I've always assumed this was a vehicle they brought in and was unusual enough to have their photo taken with. Note the bullet hole in the passenger door.

6 Cheshire WD for early/mid May when I assume this picture was taken. Apologies for thread drift.

Sorry, carry on with the thread. Pictures speak a thousand words, leave it for you guys to choose which.

    Dear Bayonet Productions
    Softskins never had red/white markings.

So carriers and above? What marking is on the truck?

    Hi Chris
I cannot see any identifiable markings on that CMP truck. It could have been captured from Italian or german sources, or could have been fitted with an Italian gun by us. A lot of use of captured vehicles took place in North Africa; I believe Rommel was on record as saying that our trucks performed better than German ones.

It was in the hood. I guess it is just a white bar with no dark bars to the left and white. The Italians were in that sector in large numbers. The writing on the photo is most likely accurate.

Still, so only carriers and above had the red white red markings?
