I am in possession of my father's army records and attempting to understand, interpret and expand on them in my research. To that end if there is anyone reading this who can offer answers, suggestions, advice,or any help whatsoever I would be most appreciative :- Some of the entries on my father's records No.21 Draft RHFGG Att 11 Pet Depot Pudsey 3 August 1941 No.24 Granted embarkation leave LRRA 18 August 1941 112/1 Draft RFHGG Embarked for service M.E.F.Glasgow 10 September 1941 X List Disembarked M.E. Egypt 14 November 1941 922 Coy T.O.S from HQ 8th Army M.E. 11 February 1942 Apart from the obvious, can anyone tell me what itall means? many many thanks Edesie
Hi Edesie Here is a list of abbreviations that might help- Canadian & Commonwealth Military Abbreviations and Acronyms MEF = Middle East Forces TOS = Taken On Strength SOS= Struck off Strength X List has something to with his transfer I did the same for my Father on here and still have no idea on some of them. regards Robert
Edesie - the RHFGG is the code to be allowed on board - the X list is also a sick list which was not uncommon on the six week trip to the Mid east in those days - sunstroke / maleria / lack of fresh vegetables - it s long list .... can you scan the records as it might yield more clues as to what he got up to out there Cheers
Thanks for the replies fella's I appreciate it. I have a copy of my dad's records but they are not very comprehensive hence the attempt to try and elaborate. I'll keep trying Chris
I know this is a very late reply! But my great grand-uncle was a driver in the 113 gen. transport coy RASC and I have just received his service record. He did aboard the RAMB IV when it was attacked May 1942. Your post popped up whilst I searching the different terms in the record. He disembarked in Egypt on the 14/11/1942 aswell.
