long shot and i've emailed the RE Museum at Gillingham, but has anyone got any information or any reference to the above named? his brother was Manchester Regt from 1940-46 and i've just found out his service number but i've had no luck researching this man. Even his service number would be a bonus! and after the luck i've not had looking for his brother's service, i'm not expecting much! Thanks Rhys
forgot to add his details are he was born in Chorley on 5 Jul 1921 and died in Macclesfield in Oct 1997!! whoops!! Rhys
Rhys with his birth date you can apply for his service record from Gov.uk it will cost you around £30.00 and a six to nine month wait. If you have any further details please post
i have a pic at last!! is it possible to work out an approximate date of the photo from the medal ribbons he wears, i.e all the stars but no 39-45 war medal?
Post WW2 looking at that lot. The only way you'll ID his unit(s) is from his service records - Assuming if you applied for them when Oldman suggested you'll have them now?
Assuming wrongly. I've kinda been busy with a posting to the other side of the world and it slipped down in importance. Also, added to the fact I'm not a direct next of kin and i have no service number, i wouldn't get much on Wilfred's service and so it's not been a priority the last year. i just checked on here in case anyone in the process of some research might have come across this man. But once i eventually return to the UK sometime in the next 2 years, i'll either search for his next of kin or apply myself. Thanks
You don't need his service number if you have a date of birth and if he's been dead for over 25 years no NoK required.
Wilf only died in 1997 so not 25 years yet. As for the service number, it's just one of thise things I can't seem to find either online or through the family! But i'll keep searching. thanks!
