field regiment. D-Day.

    father drove a tank, he was in the 86th field regiment, when he landed in normandy would he have been in a tank, doesn't seem much mention, checked the war diary, and the landing table, seems they were mostly sextons,

    There were about a dozen tanks in a self propelled field regiment. Tanks for regimental, battery and troop commanders, Gun Position Officers and Command Post Officers.

    More information can be found in the 21 Army Group section of the forum. Go to the Pages section, on the left hand side find Trux-21 Army Group then Arms and Services/arms/artillery/field artillery. Lots of information. Easier to find than it sounds.
