Hi guys, my name is Marco and i'm writing from Italy.
I'm looking for the war diaries of the 48th Highlanders of Canada and the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment concerning the month of October 1943.
I've searched on the Heritage Canadiana, but i not find anything about.
    Can someone help me?

    Thanks everybody

    Hi Marco,

So far as I know, the war diaries for Canadian infantry regiments are not on Heritage Canadiana. :(

If you are only looking for October 1943 it would not take me long to photograph those the next time I visit Library and Archives Canada, but I do not know when that will be.

I don't have the 48th Highlanders for October 1943 but I do have the Hasting and Prince Edward Regiment for that month. Start a conversation with me and include your email. I will send them off to you.

Hi Marco, I am going to the Canadian archives over Easter weekend and will get you something then but I can't guarantee everything as I have promised to photograph documents for two other people as well!

I also just bought a copy of the 48th Highlanders history and I could try to photograph the section about October 1943 if you like.

    Thank a lot Chris!
I hope i'm not disturbing you.
I appreciate any type of material or resource about the canadian army in italy on the month of October 1943, because here in Italy is much difficult for me find something about those events.

    Thanks,

    Marco

    Hi Marco,

Don't worry about it! I have been helped a lot by other people so I help others too :) And I imagine it must be very difficult to get any material in Italy.

It is annoying that the infantry regimental war diaries are not digitized, too. I had to go to the archives to look at the war diary of the Carleton and York Regiment (at Cesena) for October 1944.

    Check your messages :)

Despite the great help i've received from Chris and David, i'm stuck in my research. Unfortunately the parts of events, which doesn't allow me to go on, are related at the 48th Highlanders Regiment especially to the Charlie Company.
I returned into the places involved in this story and i asked to the elders of those villages if they remembered any particular details of the events, but their memories are very confused and inaccurate.
Once again I need your help to be able to go forward with my research.
    I hope in your support;
    thanks in advance,

    Marco

Hi Chris, I'm fine and I hope you are, too!
thanks for your interest but unfortunately the events concerning the 48th Highlanders are narrate, even in the books, in a non exhaustive way. I noticed (reading carefully) that there are many plot holes in the narration and in the chronology of the actions. Also, there are some errors in the description of the locations and in the way they are called from the various troops. Different names for the same Hill.
In addition, the dates of the deaths of some soldiers seem to be recorded one day earlier than the day of the battle.
So I need to consult and read the 48th Highlanders War Diary with the hope of finding the answers to my doubts.

    Cheers,

    Marco

    Hi Marco,

That is interesting! So you need the WD of 48th Highlanders for October 1943? I can get that in early August if no one else manages to do so first.

It's probably a long shot, but does anyone happen to have the 48th Highlanders WD for April 1944?
