SAS Operation Keystone in The Netherlands 1945

Discussion in 'Special Forces' started by Cees van den Brink, Sep 28, 2021.

  1. At the end of this year or the beginning of next year I am publishing a book about WWII in the village of Putten, The Netherlands. In this book will be a chapter about SAS soldier John Keeble. The chapter also contains a part of a report of Captain Richard Jellicorse Holland. In his report some names are mentioned. I would like to identify these SAS men. In the last pages of the book will be a name register of all people mentioned in the book. These SAS soldiers deserve to be mentioned/identified because of their contribution to the freedom we have today. Is there anybody that has information about these soldiers?

I would like to get in contact with people that have information about the following SAS Men : Willem Floris (Wim) van Beek (29-09-1918/00-00-0000); Alfred Ronald (Ron) Edwards (00-00-1914/17-04-1945); Sergeant-Major W.Ellis (00-00-0000/00-00-0000); Private M.Hawe (00-00-0000/00-00-0000); Corporal N.Searle (00-00-0000/00-00-0000); Private J.Silvey (00-00-0000/00-00-0000); Captain Smith (00-00-0000/00-00-0000); Lieutenant Stuart (00-00-0000/00-00-0000); Private Martine Edward Tyson (00-00-1922/16-04-1945); Corporal S.Walsh (00-00-0000/00-00-0000); Lieutenant John Wardley (00-00-0000/00-09-2020)

  4. Good afternoon David. Thank you for your reply. John Keeble is already identified. At this very moment I am in contact with his family. Captain Richard Jellicorse Holland also is identified. And just now I did identify Lieutenant William John Wardley (25-03-1922/28-09-2020). About Lieutenant Stuart I am a bit confused. In my previous research Lieutenant Stuart was P.N.Stuart. But maybe somewhere is made a mistake......surely those things happen-).......I did find these discussions regarding Operation Keystone but could not find information for identification.

There was a also a Dutch Lieutenant de Stoppelaar who dropped with Capt Stuart’s recce party on 3rd April who I think might be Gerardus de Stoppelaar born 25.4.1916 Vlaardingen. On the 4th April Stuart, Stoppelaar and a local dutchman (I think Piet van Arnhem) were stopped in civilian clothes by a German patrol just outside Apeldoorn. Stuart and van Arnhem were allowed to go but Stoppelaar was detained for a while. He lost his bicycle but was able to talk his way out of a difficult situation and continued to recce the area.
On the nominal roll for Op Keystone Lt Stuart is identified as Lt P N Stuart

  6. Good afternoon Horsapassenger,
That is correct. It is noted in the report of Captain Richard Jellicorse Holland. Was it not Johan Anton (Johan) de Stoppelaar Blijdesteijn born in Dordrecht The netherlands 26-03-1917?

  12. Good afternoon Jim,
    Thank you for your answer.
Do you have information who is the legal owner of the picture of Martine Edward Tyson (07-06-1922/16-04-1945.
Maybe I cab add some space to publish his picture.
He also died within the borders of municipality Putten, for our freedom.
If the picture will be published, I would need permission to do so and have the name of the legal owner that will be mentioned in the book.

Now I will start reading all your links.
Hope the find the full names and dates of birth of the SAS soldiers that I mentioned in my post......

    Thanks again !
    We shall never forget !!

    Cees

  15. Good evening Wyn,

As you probably have seen, I am from Putten, The Netherlands.
This is the village where your uncle died in 1945.
Your uncle is mentioned in the chapter about John Keeble.
Therefore I would like to publish a picture of your uncle.
The picture is in the attachment.
He is mentioned in the name register as : Edwards, Alfred Ronald (Ron) 29-09-1917 / 17-04-1945.
The picture was given to me by Jim Herriot.
In the register for pictures his name is given as owner of the picture : Pagina 258 foto Ron Edwards Jim Herriot
Do you have this picture or do you have another picture of your uncle?

The book is actually finished but still need a few more months with checking so many details.

    Kindest regards, Cees

  19. Good evening Wyn, Could you arrange for me a scan of high quality? For publishing that would be better....... There is a lot of infomation available, I know. Accept for some dates, I have to move on to other subjects because of the deadline. But have read most of it ...... Hope to hear from you soon...... Cees

  20. Good evening Wyn,
When I search on Facebook Operation Keystone it turns out to be something about Trump. So maybe the page is removed or has another name....... Tomorrow I will try to find the rememberance stone of Ron Edwards. It should be somewhere in the area in the picture attached. I realy hope that you can provide me a high resolution picture of your uncle Ronnie for publishing. It is very important that we honour those who gave their lifes for our freedom. And your uncle is one of them !! It should be a picture in uniform, that would be best........ Hope to here from you soon. Kindest regards, Cees van den Brink. Putten, The Netherlands.
