Visited the very grand Keddleston Hall last weekend home of the very grand Curzon family. One grave in their own private church intrigued me . Private R.Curzon Derbyshire Yeomanry killed on active service 10th July 1940. The date and the rank seemed unusual , anyone know anything more ?

Might be coincidence, but checked for same day casualties ... if linked then this is a possible training accident. R H Jelf's inscription reads killed on active service in a flying accident. Maybe they were together when they died. Cheers Paul

Blimey , thats almost put that one to bed:smile: Looks like a flying accident. Thanks for all information . Craig
Craig, it's still not been established that they were together, though it'd be a pretty big coincidence all the same. Might be a good idea to see if RAF chaps have any info on crashes that took place that day with 'passengers' ... there were 32 RAF deaths that day, some of whom were also buried in UK. I haven't weeded out any - ie with cemeteries abroad. 001 Link ATKIN-BERRY HL 41360 107 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 002 Link BARBER GH 515993 31 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 003 Link CHRISTIE RC 550636 224 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 004 Link CLENSHAW ICC 745067 253 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE VOLUNTEER RESERVE 005 Link COOK RD 580997 107 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 006 Link DALE V 616618 - 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 007 Link DENT CJ 755832 - 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE VOLUNTEER RESERVE 008 Link DREW GT 580431 107 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 009 Link FALCONER J 551873 59 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 010 Link GOLDSMITH-JONES GD 41282 - 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 011 Link HANNAN H 629054 - 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 012 Link HIGGS TPK 36165 111 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 013 Link HINTON SE 755307 107 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE VOLUNTEER RESERVE 014 Link HOPKIN AD 36220 59 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 015 Link JEFFERY JS 581226 59 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 016 Link LIDDLE JW 638666 59 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 017 Link LINCOLN JA 70400 - 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 018 Link MASLIN TW 42624 107 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 019 Link MERCER R 639880 107 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 020 Link O'KELLY LFJ 550918 500 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 021 Link REX J 78982 59 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE VOLUNTEER RESERVE 022 Link ROWLES TJ 581474 59 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 023 Link SHIER WG 580983 500 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 024 Link TRUSCOTT GT 581482 107 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 025 Link WARD AR 906836 - 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE VOLUNTEER RESERVE 026 Link WATSON TC 79577 - 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE VOLUNTEER RESERVE 027 Link WILKINSON H 626304 - 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 028 Link WILLIAMS A 646080 - 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE 029 Link WILSON J 748404 500 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE VOLUNTEER RESERVE 030 Link WOOD SM 751655 107 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE VOLUNTEER RESERVE 031 Link WORTON HG 903377 500 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE VOLUNTEER RESERVE 032 Link WRAY EA 42174 107 SQDN 10/07/1940 ROYAL AIR FORCE

For information photo attached of J.A Lincoln Headstone,Hendon Cemetery. I first reported this a couple of years ago which was acknowledged by CWGC and I have chased on a few occasions. It is now in a worse state. More info re J.A.Lincoln. http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/37225-pilot-officer-john-alfred-lincoln-70400-royal-air-force/
Indeed...I'm not sure CWGC will be interested though as it's not one of their graves. Didn't families have the choice of a standard CWGC headstone with the promise of looking after it 'forever' or you have your own family one at your own expense and CWGC would have nothing to do with it?
Hello Andy I have reported many broken/worn private headstones in the UK and CWGC do attend to assess and repair where they can.If they can not repair a private headstone they replace with a CWGC headstone. Unfortunately their teams are small and it can take a number of months or years to get resolved. Example below of private to CWGC headstone. 2652095 Cyril Frank TURNER, Coldstream Guards: 25/07/1947 regards Clive
