Whilst searching I came upon this website that has quite a few good photographs of Berlins Bunkers and Flaktowers. 2/Pz. Aufkl.Abt. Grossdeutschland - UK based WW2 German Re-enactment Group Regards Tom
Love the site design, they seem really professional and dedicated to their reenactments. The helmet restoration is pretty cool. On topic, those pictures are amazing. Sucks they have been all vandalized and stuff, that rock climbing is probably only speeding up the deterioration.
I was hunting for some photographs showing the Tiergarten Flakturm being demolished by the Royal Engineers but have failed so far. A friend was stationed here in Berlin with RE and at one of our RBL meetings told me that he was involved in the demolition of the Tiergarten Tower and it took three attempts. He has some old photographs of the demolition process, which he cannot find at the moment. He has promised that if he finds them I can post them on the forum. Regards Tom
Some interesting Photos of the Flak towers. Berlin Zoo Flak tower photo - Google Images http://www.ww2incolor.com/d/289635-2/ww2_72 Regards Tom
Nice photos, Tom. I knew it was huge since I visited it last year, but the last picture you posted really shows just how huge this flakturm was. All that visibly remains today is two towers and the path that connects these two. The tour inside was really something. The guide told about the extreme tour inside the flakturm, where one could climb further down the tower. That's on my to do list! Jakob
