    Hello all,
I'm currently working on an exciting magazine project marking the end of the Second World War, with a particular focus on VE Day and the reconstruction of Europe.
I'm looking for contributors to the magazine.
If anyone wants to find out more about this, please do get in touch.
    All the best,
    Sophie

    Dear Sophie,

I am not from that generation. But there is something I would like to see your magazine contributors write about.

To paraphrase an English Rock group, Pink Floyd, I would like very much to know "What happened to the post war dream?"

Returning soldiers in all countries were promised so much. They were told that their kids would live in a better world, and that their exertions of the previous six years would not be in vain.

So what happened to the empty promises of european and other politicians?

Why...seventy years later...do we find many of the same problems, even much of the same political idiocy?

Russia is still ruled by a dictator, (and engaged in yet another war with no end with its nieghbours, just as an example. The other examples are manifold.

Why do they exist at all? Some might argue WW2 was fought for diminishing returns. Soon, it might be that it was fought for nothing.

    Sophie,

Please do not forget the returning POW's from Europe, Far East was yet to be liberated, who were undernourished, weak and unfit but were allowed to celebrate with everyone else. Many only arriving in GB a couple of days before.

Difficult to describe what these guys must have thought.

    Regards,

    Nick

    Sophie.
I look forward to following this section. But i will enter my intererest now. As being the following. First then following on with what happened back at home.
My reason is Dad was fighting in Burma in the war, but before the 2nd W.War he was fighting in India.
dad was in the 2nd Batt of Green Howards. service 26 years.
But back to start, While in Green Howards ( this part i am still sorting ) he was posted over to 25 Dragoons. small tanks.
I have a great deal of paper work on the Regiment, at moment no Battle information in detail.
They fought in the Battle of the Box in Burma which i have a great book about, but Dad was one of many men who Mount Batten sent home as being in India and Burma too long.
So he missed the Battle Of The Box.
If any one need imformation from the book, i can photo copy and send you what i can.
Dont want to sell as its part of my BURMA / INDIA 2 W.W. book Shelf .
I have a special tie that i wear on Remembrance day which covers V.E. Day and V.J. Day. which i wear with GREAT PRIDE as i remember all the Service Personel who died in Burma and other areas in the world.

I look forward to hear more of this group.

I suspect that this project has been and gone-presumably it was to mark the 70th anniversary. The original poster has not been back since the day after she started the thread last year.

The original post was made in January 2015 and the person concerned does not seem to have followed up on any of offers of assistance.
