I was looking for a thread on this but didn't see one, so I'll say it myself even if it is a couple of days late. Several days ago we marked the 70th anniversary of VE Day, the downfall of perhaps the worst tyranny that has ever existed on Earth. The Allied victory in Europe was the culmination of years of bloodshed and effort by millions of Allied servicemen and women, a few of whom we are fortunate to have in our midst on this site. As we remember the dead, so we should also give thanks to the living. Because of what they did, several generations of Europeans and Americans have been able to grow up and live in relative peace and prosperity. So, let's say a word of appreciation and lift our hats to Tom, Ron, Joe, Brian, and all the others. We know it wasn't fun, gentlemen, but even on your worst days you can rest assured that it was worth it.
Here here to your comments TTH and would like to add those who were still fighting for peace in the Far East who still had a job to finish TD
TTH We did get a few laughs here and there - mainly at the stupidity of it all - but thank you for your comments cheers Tom
It's a pity that the improvements made to living conditions in Britain after the war is now in the process of being dismantled by those in power, which make the remembrance seem like lip service.
Concur with the opening post of TTH. We are very lucky to have our vets on this site. To Brian, Joe, Ron and Tom, all those who did not live to see the victory, those who did and have died since and those who are still with us, I applaud you. Your deeds are remembered by some and sadly unknown to many of these later generations. That is the price of Peace.
