my uncle, Corporal Albert Victor Palmer, Royal East Kent Regiment (The Buffs) 6298835 is buried at Coriano Ridge War Cemetery in Italy. he was killed on 13th September 1944. I have read up about the Battle for Rimini, but it is primarily concerning the Canadian Regiments. I don't seem to be able to find anything that involves the REKR (Buffs). What was their involvement? If anyone has any info I would be most grateful, as to the best of my knowledge he was the only member of my family to be killed on active service in WW2..

From History of the Second World War; United Kingdom Military Series THE MEDITERRANEAN AND MIDDLE EAST Volume VI Victory in the Mediterranean Part II - June to October 1944 by General Sir William Jackson (H.M.S.O. N&M Reprint), 2004 This quote takes place on 5th September 1944. p. 260 Mark NOTE: I am looking for details on the 13th September.
More from Jackson: Also have a look at this: Canada Army 2 Italy: Chapter 17: The Battle of the Rimini Line, 3–22 September 1944. While it is Canadian centric it details the actions to some degree of the 1st Armoured Division, to which 18th Brigade was attached. Mark
Hi Doug, If you have not already got your Uncle's service records, then i would strongly advice that you should apply for them? The following Images & information is taken from the Historical Records of THE BUFFS [ ROYAL EAST KENT] 3rd. Foot 1919-48 C.R.B. KNIGHT. It may also be wise to obtain the war diaries has the pages below does not go into much detail. dbf, thanks for the reference. Its on my list whilst 1 Buffs was attached to another Division. I thought it wise to have a look at APPENDIX D Roll of Honour 1939-1945. Note.- This Roll contains the names only of officers and other ranks who were Buffs, ab initio, or of those who were transferred permanently to the Regiment during the course of their service. The only chap i can see on page 466 is Palmer.W.C. I also had a butchers at APPENDIX E HONOURS AND AWARDS MENTIONED IN DESPATCHES ( The rank is given as stated in the London Gazette; in the case of more than one mention, the highest rank is given.) On page 494, I came across the name of Palmer, (W). A., Cpl. Stu. Edit- i forgot to mention page 294. Poor chaps. Click on images.
Mark, have you had a hand in creating the above website? I only ask because its near on word for word of the Official History of the Canadian Army by Nicholson. The Canadians In Italy Chapter 17: The Battle of the Rimini Line. If you have, then i take my hat off to you. Its a rather good Official History at 800 pages & its worth obtaining a copy. Regards, Stu.
Stu, No I haven’t, it was found using Google, and I have a copy of the Official History by Nicholson. Mark
