    Hi

I am hoping to find help tracking down information on my Grandfather pte Edwin Lacey of the 2nd Battalion Airborne Division Oxford & Bucks Light Infantry, army number 5390020.

I have paid for & received army records giving information that he saw active service starting on 6th June 1944 in NW Europe lasting only a few weeks.

He was then transferred to a UK Military Hospital and discharged a few weeks later with mental associated issues. He died quite young, a decade after the War.

My Auntie told me a few years ago, before her health declined, that my Grandfather flew into action in a Glider to Enemy territory and only he and his friend made it back alive.

I have not had any success locating information of where he may have been sent to, which glider was he in, field notes from his division, or what happened or anything really, of which I would love to know.

Does anybody know where this information may be ?? The plan is for me & my brother to visit the site in NW Europe to follow his tracks, for the Family records & to passed down to future generations.

    Thank you, Stuart Lacey.

    Hi Stuart

Have you considered his units war diary. Its available at the National Archives in London. They will tell you what the unit was doing on a day to day basis and where.

WO 171/1357 2 Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry 1944 Jan.- Dec.

If you can't or don't want to go, I can copy the file for you. Just click the red link below for more details.

    Cheers

Moved thread from User Intro to the Airborne section of the forum.
I'm surprised the members with an interest in airborne units havent been all over it as yet.
I thought they'd be able to help tell you what glider he was on & what he had for breakfast.
