Can anyone identify the source of this image? It appeared in Posts 152 and 337. In the second it is labelled as having been taken at Brest, but surely it shows the mole at Dunkirk? I am looking for the copyright owner. Belville
HI Belville, This picture appears in BEF Ships - John Winser - on page 27, with caption - view of East pier from the bridge of Harvester, IWM HU28977, Hu1153. David
HU 1153 is online. British troops boarding the destroyer HMS VANQUISHER at low tide from the Mole at Dunkirk, using scaling ladders. http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205086987 ZOOMable image http://zoom.iwm.org.uk/view/14089&cat=photographs&oid=object-205086987
Thanks, Owen, but that isn't the image I posted. The IWM can't identify the HU 28977 reference given in John Winser's book. I just want to check that it wasn't a simple mistake in transcription in David's post, before following it up with the publishers of the book. Belville
Thanks, Owen, but that isn't the image I posted. The IWM can't identify the HU 28977 reference given in John Winser's book. I know it wasn't, I saw that the other one mentioned was a zoomable image & thougth I'd mention it. I like the IWM zoomable pics.
Many thanks. No error in the transcription of the IWM reference, then. As the IWM can't identify it under that reference, I'll have to try elsewhwere. Belville
The first ones is of captured Indian soldiers from Force K6. I suspect this is the Company attached to the 51st Highland Division
There's a Guy Quad in among that lot; about halfway down on the right, but no direct indication of what it was towing, though nearby oics do show M-P 18 pounders. Someone on the 18 pounder tractors thread said there were no Guys Quads in France! Chris
