Ground Air Emergency Code [1].

Never used by my Battalion, but details carried in my Intelligence Officer 'battle box' if they had to be produced quickly! Page 2 shows the signal codes to be used. When Air Support was provided we could call for this using the Infantry Brigade Wireless link located at Battalion HQ and manned by Royal Signallers. Rifle Company Commanders requesting Air Support fire would contact Battalion HQ on the infantry battalion wireless net and outline their request. Battalion Commander, Adjutant or Intelligence Officer would provide target description and map reference to Brigade HQ. At times, it was like ordering a taxi from a nearby rank in the sky, but they were deadly rocket-firing Mosquitos. Joe Brown.
