They are from a file of bits and pieces about the 8Rs and 7/9RS collated from a number of sources. It is amazing what was recorded and published by Government War-time sources and now form part of the Imperial War Museum (IWM) archives. I can never recall any instance during my War-time service of being aware of a news camera recording what the Battalion was doing! In Flushing and Middelburg the liberated civilian population were quick off the mark with their cameras. Today, they are a valuable record.

They are especially valuable when they contain faces I know and in the one showing 8RS resting on the way to Tilburg there are two Veterans that I am now regularly in contact with as I chair the 8th Battalion War-time Veterans of The Royal Scots Association.

These past few years have had great pleasure corresponding with the sons of fathers I served with in the 8RS and 7/9RS, enabling them to know a bit more about their Dads. I find it has had the added benefit that it keeps my old friends very much alive in my mind! Keeping in touch with the families of my comrade Royal Scots was the main reason I produced brief history cards I can print off on the computer about the two battalions so that relatives can feel a sense of pride in the War Service of their loved ones.
