8th Royal Scots. Crossing The Rhine, 23/24 March 1945.
The 8RS passed through the position being held by the 7th/9th RS at Xanten. The 8RS then crossed the Rhine in three waves, 'A' and 'B' Companies taking their objectives with little difficulty; however, 'C' met fierce opposition. Following this success, a Platoon of 'D' Company was sent to 'B' Company's area allowing 'B' to attack Gossenhof and then pushed on to take Vissel whilst 'D' captured Jockern, being supported by a Squadron of 44RTR.
