13. D Troop, 332nd (Radnor) Battery

This photo, although not annotated, was taken next to the railway bridge over the River Bann in Portadown. The bridge is still there!

      Hi Bernard85

The Radnor Battery, the 332nd Field Battery, amalgamated with the 331st Field Battery in 1939 to form the 133rd Field Regiment. On mobilisation and after a number of moves in Wales, they were shipped off to Northern Ireland in March 1940, based in Portadown for 11 months. In the 1950's my Grandfather returned to Portadown with his young teenage son, my father, and spent the rest of his life there. On seeing this photograph I immediatly recognised the location as I used to come fishing here with friends. This is actually the Upper Bann, originating in the Mourne Mountains and flowing into the southern end of Lough Neagh, before recommencing on the north side of the lough and flowing to the northern coast of Northern Ireland. It appears that quite a few members of the 133rd Field Regiment ended up back in and around Portadown after the war. I can't imagine why this was!
