Hi All, I know we are a tough little lot on this forum and we generally write about the toughest generation of them all in terms of WW2. But please take care through this hot spell, seek shade if you can and drink plenty of water. Best wishes Steve
Wise words mate, wise words. And don’t forget the most essential accessory in this heat - socks and sandals!
Provided you are sensible about the risks of sunstroke and dehydration, it's all about humidity. I was on the Sinai Peninsula at 45°C, but that was much more comfortable than a couple of years back when it was 40°C in Korea because the constant moisture becomes unbearable--especially at night. Although air-conditioning is much easier to find in Seoul than Cairo...
Very hot and sunny but too much humidity. Hottest days to come Monday and Tuesday temperature ️ 39c. Risk to life, red heat warning, some trains cancelled, schools closing tomorrow and hospitals will be even more stretched. I'd stay over in Finland if I were you .
Come on now pull yourselves together its only going to be 104F in old money. We will be moaning about the snow next
Aye and we'll be moaning about Christmas Clive when you mention it . It's what us Brits do best, moan. Lesley
I think the hottest conditions I've experienced were in a similar area. Masada overlooking the Dead Sea in 1989 when it was 45°C. I remember getting off the air-conditioned coach we were travelling on and feeling like someone had hit me over the head with a hammer it was so hot.
We just used the sauna in the cottage. I wussed out at 60 degrees C. Went & showered. Son went & jumped in the lake to cool off. He's disappointed with me.
Two days humping bins about at Hatfield House. 15.7 foot miles today alone dragging laden sacks of party people's cack. More cack to move. Pack down of yurts, stuff etc.to do & Vans to unload tomorrow. Still smiling, despite the usual cynicism about the entitled behaviour of some in a crowd. I've no idea when we became so hysterical about a few days of unusual weather in 365. This 'FirstRedWeatherWarningShockHorror!' stuff: In a hot weather warning system only initiated in... 2021... Our meeja are truly truly dreadful. Spin it up. This has been a public information message from outside a tent during a substantial vodka while dreading the Proclaimers taking the distant stage. (Though 'We are the monsters' were quite good.)
All part of the snowflake generational world and that the UK can't cope with extremes. I must admit though, as an outdoor worker of some 40 years in the London suburbs, I now prefer the winter to summer.
Got this A/C unit a few years ago, probably more in hope than expectation that we’d ever need it. A bit noisy but keeps it really cool when required (about twice a decade ). And it’s mobile, like a little ice dalek. “Refrigerate, refrigerate…” You sure notice it when you go from a room where it isn’t to a room where it is. Murphy our Labrador absolutely loves it and he is our top priority when it’s as hot as it is now. The blue mat you can see goes cold when you apply pressure to it, which is also great for him to lie on.
Am I seriously reading that a “national emergency” has been declared?! Really?? Heatwave: National emergency declared after UK's first red extreme heat warning I despair for the future of this country, our forebears must be spinning in their graves.
