The Project '44 site has the Canadian infantry war diaries integrated into the daily data.

Thank you. I see what you mean about it being a slow loader though.
I have been trawling though the Heritage site listing all the census numbers, 7000 so far, which I might list like the Names and Census Number pdf files. But only covered the tip of the ice berg so far, and then there are the Infantry Regiments to check.

    Cheers

I don't think this will be useful for Kevin at all though. I think it only has the daily entries.

    Hi Chris,

The problem is that some regiments list ToS and SoS lists of census numbers within the War Diaries others have a separate entry, others have lists saying x vehicles ToS or SoS but don't state what they are. I have come across entries were the serial number of a compass is listed but nothing on vehicles!? I have found some entries within the Court of Enquiry sections were a vehicle is involved but don't list them anywhere else.
The same applies to names, some state that names can be used but don't list them, other regiments list names, troops etc. One thing i have noticed is that many state that the use of names is prohibited on B Echelon vehicles but they don't always list named tanks.
I am afraid it is hit and miss and lots of studying of each entry.

    Cheers

    Kevin

    Tom,

I don't believe there are any RCEME war diaries on line. There are some RCEME related files in the 1946 Army Central Registry Files at Heritage Canadiana.

1946 Army Central Registry - Héritage

I have done a partial classification of the files by Corps type: Infantry, RCA, RCE, etc. It is attached. There are some RCEME files.

I have attached a file I created on the RCEME units in WWII. It does reference the war diaries for each unit that are available at the Library and Archives of Canada (LAC). It should be helpful for RCEME research.

You may experience difficulties in accessing and researching records and descriptions in Collection Search. We have become aware of a cyber security vulnerability affecting organizations around the world. As a precaution, we have proactively taken down some services that may be affected by this potential vulnerability while we address the situation.

Our services will be available as soon as possible. We thank you for your patience as we work to resolve the situation.

Is that on the LAC website as opposed to heritage.canadiana.ca? I was looking at 4th Infantry Brigade war diaries last night.

The LAC website appears to be currently working as does Heritage Canadiana.

    Dear Mr. Reinders,

Please be advised that LAC is currently in the process of moving a part of its archival collection to its new Preservation Storage Facility. As such, parts of the archival collection are currently unavailable for Copy Services. The following items are part or the collection that will be unavailable until October 22nd, 2022. Therefore, your request for these copies will be cancelled. You will be able to resubmit your order as soon as this part of the collection becomes available.

Ahh, that's good to know. I image that will apply to requests for documents locally too.

I've been looking at some brigade war diaries on the heritage.canadiana.ca site and there is some wonderful data if you can find it in amongst the thousands of messages...

Hopefully nothing will get misplaced or lost in the move. Last summer put in an order for some photo prints from their war albums, and half the request was not able to be fulfilled because the negatives are not where they were suppose to be.

    Hey,
Following a redesign of the Héritage website and requests from several members to integrate ALL the reels (not only war diaries), I made a new version of the program. I will post it here very soon ;)
