Hi folk's a long shot reference a missing casualty for a fellow Rootschat member.Herbert James Davies believed to be REME involved in tank recovery not on any CWGC database and nothing else known despite inquiries by his Nephew. His name is recorded on the war memorial in Stocksbridge south York'sHis brother spent some leave with him in July 1944 in Naples and he is believed to have died about three weeks later and buried south of Rome.I agree with the general consensus that his MOD records would be vital in his search but through past experience this forums members can usually come up with info and suggestions. Here's the thread for those interested. Killed in Italy in 1944 but no known grave or memorial (Armed Forces) Page 1 RootsChat.Com
Looks like there is a lot of info there on rootschat suggest the person seeking info applies for service records if they exist Alias when joined up, doubtful Served but did not die. Family memory misted re death in service Did not serve at all is he on 1939 register poss reserved occupation
If the poster is sure that his relative was born on 23 February 1918 why was his birth not regisrered in the first quarter (Jan/Feb/March) ? He is registered in the second Quarter (Apr/May/June) ? Mother :-Tong Kyle I know its within 42 days but...
