    Hi, i was wondering if someone could help regarding the action in which 4800188, Lance Corporal, George Edward Bellamy , 5th Sherwood Forester's was killed /Died?, Thanks Mick

    Son of Edward and Mary Elizabeth Bellamy, of Stockton-on-Tees, Co. Durham.
    INSCRIPTION: ALWAYS SMILING A HEART OF GOLD NO BETTER SON THIS WORLD COULD HOLD. MISSED BY HIS LOVING MOTHER
    Buried at NAPLES WAR CEMETERY
    Cemetery/memorial reference: IV. A. 6.

    He died a few days before the battalion assaulted the River Volturno.

    George Bellamy enlisted in the Lincolnshire Regiment between 1932-33. He transferred to the 5th Battalion, The Sherwood Foresters on 1st May 1943. I recommend getting a copy of his service records/the war diary for the Sherwood Foresters between May to October 1943.

    Hi, Could I get some information please on the 5th Sherwoods for the 13th October 1943. I am researching Private George Rushton who was killed on that date. I also have another who was killed during the crossing of Volturno River, from
    2/5th Batt Leicestershire Regiment.

    Hi Mick. No idea if you are sill looking for information on George Bellamy but I’m his niece. Edward and Mary Bellamy were my grandparents andTed was my uncle.
