Pier at De Panne. photos with Morris CS8 Z389808. You can see the car and truck to the left of the pier in most of the photos. On some photos you can see some Motley mounts for the MG. Can anyone add more Veh or AOS numbers / photos to ID the units of the pier.

I wonder whereabouts on the beach this pier was.....I will now see if I can identify these vehicles as being Barton ones....

I have enlarged the photos and put the other photo that may show one other bus, could have a number near the x.

So much more to be found....many buses & coaches impressed by UK simply vanished never to be seen again. You assume they were captured after the 1940 evacuations and the evidence is starting to appear more and more that a lot will have been pressed into use by the Germans. The hunt continues.....

Could be a whalecatcher, if so shouldn't be too difficult to track down. I will start with Salvesens book tomorrow. My reason for saying this is the lookout's crow's nest on the foremast and a possible mount for the harpoon

Had a quick look through Winser and can't find a catcher so far. The bridge/funnel looks like a picture of a drifter in BEF Ships - not too improbable as fishing vessels were sometimes converted for whaling.

Always a mistake to say something 'shouldn't be too difficult' without thinking it through!! I have been through several sources and there are no obvious whale catchers or sealers there. So, without going through the history of the trawlers and drifters that were sunk at Dunkirk, I can't see another method of identifying this ship. I leave it to the many who are more skilled at it than me. Sorry folks!!

That watchman nest on the forward mast can be seen on some French ships drowned at Dunkirk. But is it a sign for the French ship, or the construction was common for others too?
The text on the back side doesn't give the ship name.
