Hi, I have been able to get back to my own family at last and started to pull my Grandfather;s service record apart. Does the bold element of the following entry make sense to anyone please: 18 April 1944 ‘Service, Trade and Classification’ entry T.T. [ins?] STD G.M. C III; ‘Part II Order’ 2 Lothians 800/144. (For context, this is 2 Lothian & Border Yeomanry, 6 Armoured Division in Italy) More queries to follow presumably, so apologies in advance!!
Hi, Experience tells members that it is always best to have sight of original documents before offering an opinion. Could you post an image of the queried document please? Steve
Apologies, uploaded in the wrong order and am unable to edit now - first one is to put the second one into context
Hi, Thanks for attaching both sides of the Army Form B102. The queried entry means that he passed a Trade Test and was mustered as a Gunner Mechanic Class 3 on 18th April 1944. The qualification was recorded in his unit Part II Orders. Did you receive any Army B103 forms? The B103 entries usually amplify the shorthand abbreviated entries in the B102. Steve

Hi Tullybrone, Thanks for the Gunner info; are you able to expand on what the 'skill' meant in terms of his daily life and duties please? (I'll Google too of course!) Annoyingly, there's no B103 Casualty form in the papers I'm afraid; presumably weeded or lost as he was wounded and had Malaria for the rest of his life, so I expected to see entries and movements The Statement of Services, Military History sheet and attestation sheets have no reference to the trade or date either.
Hi, Shame about the missing documents. Sorry I’ve no additional information. Try the forum search function. Forum member & ex RAC veteran Ron Goldstein might be able to help you further. Steve
Presumably these are the records you obtained from MoDUK. Have you been back to them and asked them to recheck for the B103? It is not unknown for them to miss out forms when sending out the records. Tim
