That looks like an amazing place and one that would take a day or two to fully see everything. Just out of curiosity, is it true that the memorial marker for the Babi Yar site is actually placed a fair distance away from the actual site of the massacre? I seem to recall hearing that it doesn't actually mark the site but I've never been sure if I heard it correctly.
As a person who has visited the site for a number of times, read a bulk of books, can say that such a question can not be answered in general meaning of one post. In simple terms, the Babi Yar ravine was, in fact, huge and there is no specific site of the mass murders and there was plenty of them. Also, there are a number of monuments today. Still the main and the most famous one indeed located on the site of the murders on 29-30 September 1941, which, as we all know, costed lives on 34 000 people. And it was also a place where corpses were burned open-air back in 1943. It's not correct to use these terms, yet, yes, the main monument located on the 'right' place. I have noticed that my Western readers generally have a little understanding of that tragedy and of the site itself. I would probably do an extended article this year with history, debunking of the myths and faults, with maps and topography then/now.
