    Hi all,
Just wanted to introduce myself and say hello!!
I live in Surrey and have always been interested in military history from a young age and served in the Grenadier Guards for 9 years during the 1980's.
My grandfather came from Ulverston in Cumbria and served in the 1/4th Kings Own Royal Lancaster Regiment TF between 1912 and 1920 and for several years I have been collecting medals, photo's etc of men he would have served with during WW1 and researching them as much as possible.
My interest has more recently expanded to the post WW1 local Ulverston TA battalions the 4th Kings Own Royal Regiment (Lancaster) and following conversion in 1938 the 56th (Kings Own) Anti Tank Regiment Royal Artillery and in particular the units WW2 service in France and Burma.
My grandfather also served with the Home Guard in Ulverston during WW2 with the 2nd East Lancs (North Lonsdale) Battalion so I am also very interested in finding anything I can about this unit.
I will post more specific requests in the relevant sections once I have found my way around the site and searched for relevant info previously posted but in the meantime it would be great to hear from anyone with similar interests.
    Kind regards
    Ian

    Ian,
welcome to the forum. I'm not sure how you have come across the above information but i will have to question 2 East Lancs (North Lonsdale) battalion? I'm not 100% sure but what would a East Lancashire battalion be in doing in Cumberland?

I do have a rare Regimental History of the East Lancashire Regiment in the War 39-45 by H.RAWSON & CO. LTD... that was printed in Manchester in 1953.. I'm looking at the Contents PART II. THE 2ND BATTALION OF around about 45 pages & one can not find any mention of (North Lonsdale!). I will have to have a quick read of the eleven chapters, but i will hold up my hand if this battalion was in the above town, or village.

    Regards,
    Stu.

Thank you for the welcomes and my apologies Stuart I think I confused the issue. Clive is correct and I was referring to the Home Guard unit. I have seen the unit referred to as East Lancs, probably as they used the EL lettering. They were actually badged to the Kings Own Royal Regiment (Lancaster).
