I'm looking for a copy of the Essex Scottish War Diary for September 1944. Does anyone have a copy they could send to me. I know there's a copy at U of Windsor and LAC but I'm not close to either. Thanks.
I believe some excerpted ES diaries are contained in Stolpi's thread but David has kindly also offered this resource: Updated Resource - Heritage Canadiana War Diaries Update
Hi there and thanks. I haven't been able to locate any of the Essex Scottish diaries on the Heritage Canadiana website. I did see the excerpts in Stolpi's thread. When I check LAC it says these diaries have not been microfilmed so not sure if these are included yet with those made available on Heritage Canadiana. The LAC reference is RG24 vols 15059-15062, 17513. Any additional info much appreciated.
David is the resident expert on the diaries so he can pitch in on that. Is that the Dieppe beach memorial in your profile photo? If I may ask, any family members who served with the Essex?
Yes. My dad. I was looking for an avatar and landed on one with the Dieppe monument. My dad landed in France in July /44 so missed Dieppe. I've since changed it.
on a previous inquiry on Essex Scottish I made Dryan posted a link that answered my questions try link below regards Bob R. http://ww2talk.com/index.php?members/dryan67.12916/
Welcome aboard, Sailormann. Every time I'm searching for Essex Regiment images online, I seem to come across the same image of the Essex Scottish taking a break for tea and sandwiches with their rifles all standing propped up together (there must be name for that - anybody?) - have you seen it? Edit: on ebay now, dated 1/10/41 - but some posters are hypersensitive about links to auction sites.
This is one of my favorite pictures of the Essex Scottish Regiment. It was taken on 27 August 1939 in Windsor, Ontario with Detroit, Michigan in the background.
Although the Battalion did not mobilize at Windsor Armouries until 1 September 1939, many of the CASF units provided Armoury guards starting on 26 August 1939. Although the war diary does not confirm this, they must have had some guards out before 1 September.
I have the July 44 Essex Scottish War Diary. I would be interested if you have something else. Let me know.
Have the war diaries for the Essex and Scottish still not been made available online? If they are at LAC I could photograph them.
The only ones online are here. July and August 1944. http://lmharchive.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Essex-Scottish-Regiment.pdf I have some from Sept but it would br great if more were available online.
