My uncle was wounded on 22January 1944 while serving with 2nd Batt. The Wiltshire Regiment at the Garigliano Crossing.
He spent about 4 months very seriously ill in 92 BGH. One of the sisters who looked after him wrote a lovely letter to my grandmother after he had been repatriated to the UK and was still in hospital there.
Her name was sister Noreen Clements and if it were possible trace any of her family, I would like to thank them and offer them the chance them see that letter, which has been treasured in our family for 73 years.
If anyone could help I would be very grateful.
    Thank you

There are five records on Ancestry in the UK & Ireland, Nursing Registers, 1898-1968 database, for a Noreen Clements. They show her permanent address between 1934 and 1946 as 30 Marlborough Road, Southport, and her date of Registration as a nurse on Nov 27, 1931 in London. It also shows she trained at the Royal Infirmary, Manchester between 1928 and 1931.

In the 1939 Register on FindMyPast a Noreen Clements (B: 21 April, 1906), is shown resident at the Royal Infirmary, Manchester, employed as an SRN - Training Sister, and that she is single.

There is a death record for a Noreen Clements on FreeBMD: FreeBMD Entry Info

It looks like she may never have married.

I can't locate at the moment a birth record, nor any entries in the 1911 Census in Lancashire. I am expanding the search.

Her estate was left to 'Laura Clements married woman' it isnt clear if she was her sister or sister-in-law, it also gives her status as Spinster, so probably need to check out the wider family tree

Looking at the 1939 Register on FindMyPast again, Laura Clements (29 Mar 1891) was living at 30 Marlborough Road, Southport, with an Isaac Clements (09 Jul 1875) who was an Army Officer (retired), the image shows he was a Major (retired) followed by I.A.S. Co?. There is a closed record also shown at this address - possible child.

The 1911 Census shows an Isaac Clements, Warrant Officer, Indian Army (I & I[?] Corps) on leave born, Bolton Lancashire.

    Topper.

If you would like to see what happened to your uncle whilst serving with 2 WILTS on the Minturno-Tufo Ridge on 22 Jan 44, do get in touch. On 7-10 Jun 18, I am taking a group to see the Battle of the Garigliano before pushing on to Anzio where all the same units, less your uncle because was injured, were sent once Minturno Ridge was secure.

    Regards
