Just thought I'd post this for the benefit of those who might not know otherwise. I have an account with the British Newspaper Archive website. They periodically send emails out with discount codes so I thought I'd pass the latest one on for the benefit of other forum members. You will need to create an account if you don't already have one, then when you get to the payment part type or paste the following code into the voucher code box - BNAMAR1FOR1 This offer expires by the 2nd of April so move fast if you want to get it. I'll post future codes and polar in my inbox.
Bump. Having that problem again where posts don't seem to show up in the "view new content" option. Edit - that's very weird. When I logged in and posted this message a couple of minutes ago there were 0 replies and 0 views. Now there are 56 views but it still doesn't show as new content?
Thank you, cannot explain the seemingly lack of interest? Bargain if you remember to opt out of the continuous subscription in `my account` Thanks Kyle
Oh yeah - good point. Also my advice would be to download copies of any useful stuff you find as you can't access them once your subscription lapses.
Not as good as the £1 offer but got email offering one month access for £6.50. You have seven days to take advantage of this special offer. Follow these three simple steps to do so: 1) Visit The British Newspaper Archive 2) Enter the promotional code SAVE2 3) Click the 'apply code' button and buy a 1 month subscription.
Must say, I took a half-priced month and downloaded about a hundred pages and consider it a good investment. Only a dozen or so articles of great/photographic interest, but countless lists of names, ranks and (sometimes) numbers that will be helpful when compiling lists. I then forgot to cancel the subscription and was charged for a second month, but they were happy to refund it immediately. Money well spent.
Glad to hear you've been making good use of it Charley. In Scotland I believe local libraries have access to this archive as well as Ancestry and other websites - not sure about rest of UK though but worth investigating.
You couldn't look up an article to add to Bamboos thread on Matron Agnes McGearey pretty please? She is mentioned in the Motherwell Times edition 17 Dec 1954, page 3, but the surname spelling is McGeary. Cheers Maria
Thanks for looking that up. What a lady. The Irish parentage explains why I could only find two births with that exact spelling at Scotlandspeople. There was another born in the 1920s and only one marriage in 1953. That's a great one pound offer. I was tempted but fearful of writing off chunks of time. Cheers
Well worth it so long as you remember to uncheck the automatic renewal box. Only a couple of more days left before the code expires. - go on, you know you want to!
Update - got email today. Enter code DEAL2 to get one month for £1. Don't forget to cancel the automatic recurring subscription though!
Hi would it be possible for you to look up an article in The Manchester Evening News 10.1.1941 for me. The article is about my uncle Harry Rossiter who was wounded at Dunkirk. It mentions that he was known as a boxer" Battling Harry Rossiter" which wasn't true that was his brother Harold. Many thanks Diane
Thank you that is the right one. Harry was the youngest. Happy to say they all survived the war although afterwards Harry suffered from "shellshock" Diane
Happy to help Diane. I have the whole page saved as a PDF file I just took a screenshot of this bit for ease of posting here. If you send me a private message with an email I can send you it.
