In order to allow the BF110 thread to go back to the discussion of aircraft, then here is a thread to discuss the wartime activities of Film stars etc and their films.

Richard Todd was dropped on Peagus bridge on D-day and played his CO in the longest day!!!

I believe David Niven was an Army captain on active service until he was withdrawn to make patriotic films

He had been in the Army before the war, deserted but was allowed back and ended up in either the Phantom Reccie group or A SLU.

I have a copy of The Moons a Balloon, but it is up in the loft in a MFO box and I am not going up there in this weather!!

James Stewart joined a year before Pearl Harbor.

He stayed in the Air Force Reserve and ended up a Brigadier General.

Wasn't Audie Murphy (I think that's right) a war hero in the Pacific? I Think he was highly decorated but I could be wrong. I also think that he played himself in a film about his wartime days.

They're not film stars but George Bush snr and JFK were both in the Pacific as well. George Bush was a pilot, I think JFK was in the Navy.

Not sure about the Pacific but I know that he fought in France.

He became a film star after the war.
The film about himself was 'To Hell and Back'

He was the most decorated US soldier in WW2. 33 medals.
He was only 21 at wars end.
