Agreed with some of the films mentioned earlier especially Its a wonderful Life and Bullitt. Another film worth watching is "Coogans Bluff" with Clint Eastwood or the original "get Carter" the remake wasnt a patch on the original.

Watched "Get Carter" a couple of weeks ago in the wee hours.

There are not many Clint Eastwood movies I cannot sit through.

I used to watch Rawhide for christs' sake!

As well as World War 2 films I was 'weaned' on musicals.
My favourite musical has to be 'Singing in the Rain'.

More recently I was delighted that the film of V For Vendetta did far more justice to the graphic novel than I ever thought was possible.
That's a first then. The book's one of the best ever written, must make more of an effort to watch that.

Musicals??? Then "High Society", "White Christmas", "an American in Paris" and "My Fair Lady" are wonderful musicals. "Fiddler" is also one I have enjoyed!

Good man with the Grease.. good good man. However, I'm definetly not a musical man. But, I've begun to try and culture myself and watch a couple musicals, so far with no success of enjoying them. Maybe it's like beer and is an acquired taste.

Or they're just absolute rubbish for which you must disengage your brain gear. Well, it worked for Gone In 60 Seconds.

After the mention of One of Our Planes is Missing, what about One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing? Now that's CLASS!

Yes. "Where were you in '62?" The cop car chained by back axle to some immovable object ....:p Great music. First (?) appearance of Harrison Ford.

One of the favourite films in our house that the whole family will watch, over and over is The Sound Of Music.
We will be going to Salzburg one day........(then pop over to someone's old mountain residence.)

That reminds me - Richard Dreyfuss - even if he is in a c**p film, it's always worth watching just for him.

p.s. I think you're right Jim, AG was Ford's first proper film (he'd done loads of bit parts, mainly for TV)

I've done what you want to do Owen (did Salzburg and Berchtesgarden in 1994) and believe me its a trip worth taking. The place is steeped in history and Salzburg is beautiful.

Don't know if anyone here has seen it, but the film 'Pirrepoint' about Albert Pirrepoint is very interesting.

    As suggested by Owen.

Eva Braun's favorite film "Gone With The Wind"

What do you think Hitlers would have been?

Charlie Chaplin's "The Great Dictator"!!! LOL

Seriously though I would imagine it would be a serious and very droll film maybe "Battleship Potemkin" or something like it!

I'd always been told that 'King Kong' was Adolf's favourite film... seriously.

Being a dictator doesn't necesarily squash the taste for fun does it?;)

Which would be your most memorable none war film of the 50's - 60's - 70's (that is if you can go back that far) My choice is 'The Searchers' (1956) with John Wayne, I have it on tape and have watched it many times. Is that sad?

    Can you be sadder?

    Peter.

You mean I have to choice only one? "Apocalypse now". I wouldn't say it too optimistic either.
