I would like to get an idea of what the main reason is for peoples interest in WW2, so let have your vote or comments.
My main interest in WW2 is for Family Research, which is what i voted for.But i also love History and the events that have helped to shape our lives over the centuaries. That also fuels my interest in WW2.But as you can only cast one vote,Family Research is what i voted for. Steven
Like Steven, my initial interest in WW2 has developed from hearing and reading about relatives' experiences but I also have a strong interest in the 20th Century and the way in which it has influenced present day society.

My interests were initially family related but it grew from there, my other main interests are the life of Winston Churchill, The War in the Pacific and the holocaust.
I voted for Historian. I have been interested in the world wars since I was 9 or 10 my father grandfather and uncles all read and read books on the subject and I and my brothers followed suit,it's a subject the family talks about when we get together. Now I have started researching family members who served. Regards Doug
I voted historian I have always had a great intrest in ww2 and other wars Its also family related but can only have one vote :P
I voted for family related as my interest stems from my granddad being in the homeguard, also my uncle, who is still alive, is just starting to come forth with some amazing stories of how he drove landing craft at Salerno and Anzio.
I don't know what sparked my interest in WW2. But the reason I do love researching and reading it so much is because it's probably the most important event in human history, and alot of humanity can be found inside these books. Stories about normal people doing extraordinary things, making huge sacrifices for the greater good. That kind of stuff...
Well I voted research, but I also wanted to vote family related. My father who is still alive, fought inWW2 with the Irish Guards. He whent first to Holland, at the end of the war he stayed in Germany with the military police guarding misplaced persons camps. Not a lot of fun I understand.
I love History and I strongly believe in the study of history so that we do not relive any of its terrible wars. Members of my family were involved in the war on both sides, one of my father's uncles was an American medic at the Battle of the Bulge. another of my father's German uncles worked with the German Navy, i think with E-Boats or Coastal Navy units . On the other side my mother's uncle was a German officer in the Waffen-SS, with a Nordic unit.

Sorry, I just hit send accidentally. I don't really know how I got an intrest in world war II. I think it could have been through a book that one of my teachers gave me. It's "The Dangerous Sea Wolves" by Edwin P Hoyte. Anyways, I'm now obsessed with World War II. one of the reasons why I enjoy it is because you can never really know everything about it and there's always more. You can't ever get bored. I also really enjoy it because it is one of the biggest and last evenly matched wars that there will ever be in my opinion. You'll always have one super power that excedes everyone else by far. Right now it's the US. If the US wanted to it could finish the world right now. It wasn't like that in World War II. Daniel
Yeah Sure the US could take the world, if they were to use their atomic weapons, their military is very stretched out. They got units stuck in Iraq, Afghanistan, South Korea and they only have three active duty Army units in the USA, right now. If the USA were to start a war against the UN/World, then they would be getting there butt handed to them. If the US President stays in office then they could be headed that way?!?!. Heres a question for all you Tommies out there, How big is your army? And heres a Question for all you Scotsmen out there, are there army units that still wear the Scottish Kilt?
Finding out more on my family history , I know they survived ww1 so then most prob went on in second war but as yet i don,t know so thats why my intrest is here !!!! And most probaly with the Glos regt or welsh !!
My interest stems from the loss of my great uncle (see my signature and avatar) in a Japanese PoW camp. I've only just started looking at WW2 and the areas that interest me the most are the London Region Fire Service, D-Day (the current anniversary has got me hooked) and Arnhem.

The aircraft got me interested; the history keeps me there. And I thougt I knew so much about WW2 aircraft when I was a boy... little did I realise how little I knew!
