I was wondering which WW II war movie is your favourite ? I liked The Thin Red Line - a little too 'arty' but very good nontheless, The Great Escape is a classic and I never tire of watching it, but top of my list would have to be Saving Private Ryan, the landings and the end battle I thought were very good! Schindlers List is also in my top five What is your personal favourite movie ? Regards H.B.

Two movies that People usually have opinions about: Captain Corelli's Mandolin Force Ten from Navarone
Two movies that People usually have opinions about: Captain Corelli's Mandolin Force Ten from Navarone With good cause! Captain Corelli's Mandolin was a great book cut to pieces and a hard to believe romance with historical errors. Force Ten from Navarone was about ten years too late with the wrong cast although I do like Shaw and thought Fox was great as Dusty Miller. Having Carl Weathers in it was a joke and his story line was disastrous. Having said that I have it and "Guns" sitting on the shelf but don't watch them one after another.
Dambusters - "It's Nigger Sir!" The Wooden Horse Waterloo Road Kelly's Heroes - "Quit it with those negative waves man!" (That one with Edward Fox blowing up a Dam, think it was a follow on from Navarone.)
The Dambusters, Battle of Britian, The Sea shall not have them - if only for the sight of Mk2 TTLs in full speed. The longest day
Dambusters - "It's Nigger Sir!" The Wooden Horse Waterloo Road Kelly's Heroes - "Quit it with those negative waves man!" (That one with Edward Fox blowing up a Dam, think it was a follow on from Navarone.) Hmmm, Others have quoted as well, could it be another quiz in the making? Hmmm.
Hmmm, Others have quoted as well, could it be another quiz in the making? Hmmm. Like, most excellent idea Dude! (sorry, I'm in a B&T discussion on another forum, and it's leaking into my real world.)
Its not my favorite (Stalingrad probably takes that post) but I just saw a movie called "Napola". It is the story of a poor kid that gets invited to join a Hitler Youth school (a Napola). While not precisely a war movie it does deliver on all the human emotions and personal discovery surrounding national socialism, war, friendship and death. Done by a young German director that doesn't have the usual politically correct hangups as his predecessors. I highly recommend it.
My top five would be: 1- A Bridge Too Far 2- The Big Red One 3- The Battle Of The Bulge 4- Sink The Bismarck 5- The Bridge At Remagen As an aside, has there ever been a more stellar cast for any film than A Bridge Too Far? The Longest Day comes close, but I can't see anything like it being done again.
