This is my non fiction bookcase in all it untidy glory.Although I have always had an interest military matters my main area of academic study has been ancient civilisations, mainly focusing on ancient Britain.I have several degree's in this field of study hence the top three shelves are dedicated to that particular sphere of history. The two lower shelves are dedicated to Military and Genealogy and some crap that my wife has decided to store, which until now I hadn't realised was hiding there.lol.

I still have 3 boxes of research material and books to house yet and I also have a full case of fiction in the dining room

I was actually planning one :), but don't do that now due to injury. And after 16 years of running around in the woods hacking and slaying I was getting a bit bored lol.
This was the group I was with:
    Dark Ages Society

Started of at the tender age of 22 fighting the line with a spear and shield with the blokes, but gradually time took its toll and I ended up fighting with a two handed spear at the end of the lines. Sometimes I would fight with a dagger held in the back spear hand so that when i closed I could 'take someone out' with out them realising lol. I was also known for biting & kicking if I got 'captured' lol.
One of the early memories I remember with fondness was the 4 of us in the unit, 3 guys and me tracking another unit through the woods down a bracken covered slope. The guys were all close on 6ft, I'm just 5'3". they all went charging after the other unit. I tried to follow and got totally lost up to my head in bracken and couldn't go any further and had to give it up as bad job. Given that we were wearing very slippery, handmade leather 'turn shoes' I could have ended up going head over heels down the hill.
Of course there's lots stories of drunken banquets and other escapades lol

Thanks I used to really like living history, imparting information to kids in a way they could understand and appreciate :)

I even got a couple of injuries, from the same guy actually and he was on my 'side' and in my unit and was at the time my unit officer!!!! We were doing a shield clash - shields up & outstretched, full charge at the enemy and spear hand back. Somehow i got in his way and his spear came back across my eye socket vertically. It was very bruised and sore. Next shield crash, same guy hit me in the ribs with the butt of his spear and I got cracked ribs. he was know to be very accident prone, but I was the one that got injured lol
