If I'm not mistaken, you live in Canada. Suggest you have a look at the IKEA Web page www.ikea.com/ca. There you can see all types and prices. My book cases are called BILLY and the doors BILLY BYOM. The lower part is 210 cms tall which is close to 7 ft, so you might get lucky there.

    Good luck ! :)

I did do that after posting and found something similar with the doors as a secondary purchase. Just wondering what they were priced at comparatively.

    thanks.

I'm not absolutely sure that I got your question right, but will try to answer:
Over here, case and doors are purchased separately. Doors are comparatively expensive; Case (210 cms tall) costing the same as one door; 365 NOK in our currency which would translate into 63,8 CAD, that is 191,4 CAD for the lot. Shelves are included when you buy the case.
Peeping at the ikea.com/ca page, I find the case (white, 210 cms tall, 80 wide) with glass doors would cost you CAD 190.
Hope this was of some help.:)

My own vision is to have the doors, in addition to being glass, be able to take panel display so that I could swap out badges, medals or paper ephemera every now and then.

The Billy Morebo doors might not be able to handle the ironmongery, but can take paper and photos.

This is useful, if nothing else, to see the dimensions. Thank you very much for the values on them. Seems like they are comparable with what I saw in the Ikea online catalogue. What I am hoping to avoid is having to build them, but that may be my option to get what I want.

Wondering if anyone has ever seen anything like what I am trying to describe.? Some of you have a lot more experience dealing with compact spaces.

    cheers,
    phil

    Interesting fastening system on that.

I have some of the hinges in my workshop, so that won't be a problem.

    Good ideas.

    cheers,

Returning to base in AFG today, I had a most pleasant surprise, as my in-camp aluminium case as well as my "leave bag" from the transit base, both had suddenly surfaced.
I will not tire you with any details on performing duties in a decidedly unfriendly area without your kit... For almost a week, everything from personal side-arm to clothing had to be borrowed from my lads (we are a tiny base without any stores). Boots proved to be the worst part, as I arrived from Norway properly dressed for - 10 deg and 3 ft of snow, in special 3-layered extra insulated Goretex state-of-the-art. A bit much for the 30 deg here though, and none of my lads wears my size. It all has been thoroughly photo-documented and will not be posted on this forum ! As I said, I will NOT tire you with the details...:D

Anyway, on the bottom of my case all my boks appeared unscatched. This is the lot:
    Books from case.jpg

The 3 on the left don't really count, as I brought them with me. (Thanks for the recommendation, Gage! It arrived from amazon just on time.)
For those of you not proficient in Double-Dutch I would like to post a few comments on those on the right:
The first 2 are by Swedish historians Michael Tamelander and Niklas Zetterling (also Marco Sandberg) They are on D-day and the outbreak of WW 2 respectively. I have earlier appreciated Tamelander and Zetterling's books on the Dambuster raid and "the battle of western Europe (France + BoB combined). Found them informative and easily readible. If any of their works have been translated to English, I would recommend to have a try.
"Elite Soldier" by Thomas Ratsack (US Presidential Unit Citation) is an autobiography by Danish SF soldier. Notable for the Danish DoD trying to stop its issuing last autumn.
"God Is Norwegian" (which you probably all realise) is an autobiography by Aslak Nore on his experience in Bosnia and onwards from the 1990s.
Bakkeli: "One shot, one dead" deals with snipers in the Norwegian Army. Title sounds interesting, but author is tabloid journalist and I have been deeply disappointed by his earlier book on Norwegian SF.
"Marius" is a biography on Norwegian international downhill skier and ww2 Spitfire pilot with 332 (Norw) sqd Marius Eriksen 1922-2009, Norw War Cross with sword, DFM, Silver Star. Shot down in 1943 and POW for rest of war.
Thank you for reading this far ! :p

Nice books ;) Beyond Band of Brothers is one of my favourites...
Have you read Elite Soldier yet? This book was one of the best selling titles last year in Denmark due to the debate you mention.

No, I'm half-way through Lost Voices and 1/10 through Churchill. Is it any good ?

Haven't gotten around to read it myself. If you read it before I do, let me know how it is though ;)

Will certainly do. Worries me a bit that it seems too big for my pockets. If it's good, maybe we should do an English translation ?!;)

Well, as you can see, I actually managed to stuff Rathsack (Elite Soldier) into one !

Churchill is a no-go pocket-wise, though. It's already gone missing a few times in-camp. But my good lads keep picking it up for me.:)

I don't believe I do, because my lads would most certainly have brought my attention to the fact !
(I ALMOST flickered a white light under NVG conditions once, which made me The Lady With The Lamp for a long time. Well deserved and still remembered, but I do so not intend to become The Lady With The Limp.)

BTW, I just posted a review of Lost Voices of the RAF on the Books etc sub-forum.
