Hi I am researching Alexander Douglas Grant DALLAS MC, KIA 1/9/44 in N Italy, with the 2/6th QRR(WS). He became an acting Major in about June 1943 at the age of 22. Can anyone find a younger A/Major?
Maj RWT Britten, MC, of the Madras S&M was born 28/02/22 and promoted acting Major 27/12/43, which made him 21 if I've counted right. Found a score of 22 year olds, too. This was from a sample of only about 7,000 where I have both DOB and date of promotion. The oldest of the sample was a substantive Maj aged 62.
Search CWGC . You have searched for War: Second World War, Served In: Army, Served With: United Kingdom Forces, Rank: Major Here's a 20 year old Major. http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/2092613/BUCKWELL,%20PETER%20NOEL%20WYLIE
I'm sure there is an interesting story behind that. Think of yourself at 20 with that amount of responsibility.
How about this chap? Lt. Col. E. P. Thompson. C.O of the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada at the age of 23 and Killed In Action in that role at the age of 24 during Operation Blockbuster.
Hi Owen Online Birth records have Peter N W Buckwell born in early 1921 so he would have been 21. Still amazing. Charpoy. Do you have the actual date of promotion for my Dallas guy. I cannot find him in the Gazette. Thanks
No, sorry. My stuff is strictly war against Japan. Try the relevant Army List, you can find them on CD and online nowadays.
Bear in mind that he would probably have been an acting Maj for three months before he became temporary.
The CO's of the Camerons obviously did not lead from the rear: Lieutenant Colonel N.H. Ross, DSO. ED 1944 St Andre sur Orne 20 Jul 1944 Lieutenant Colonel J. Runcie, MC 1944 Fontenay le Marmion 7 Aug 1944 Lieutenant Colonel C.W. Ferguson 1944 Fontenay le Marmion 8 Aug 1944 Lieutenant Colonel A.S.
