Just returned from this. Another successful trip with the veterans. We had a day around Arnhem and the Island, a day on the Belgium border and up the XXX Corps route, and a day on the Rhine crossing area and Reichswald Forest.

Ken Smith, a member of this forum, was among the group, and we visited Driel for him where he fought with the 5th DCLI in September 1944.

We also took Ken back to Groesbeek where he was wounded, just east of the village, in October 1944.

    Hi Paul,

I see you were given a talk by a friend of mine at the Memorial to John Harper at Mendicitie. Francis Huijbrechts, a very knowledgeable Belgian Historian from Hoogstraaten. Would have loved to have been on that trip, as my Father's unit were attached to the 49th Division during that time in Belgium.

I've been to ceremonies held there in 2009 and 2010 for the annual remembrance to John Harper. A benign looking place except for for it's recent past.

Glad to see that the weather was good in those photos as I gather that it has been a pretty mixed bag.

    Cheers - Rob

Yes we had a good day with the locals down at Wuustwevel and Merksplas. The talk we got at the Harper VC memorial was excellent.
