Does anyone have a copy of the regimental history of the York & Lancs in WW2?

I have just picked up a scrapbook to an officer in the 6th Bn (46 Div) in Italy - will post a couple of extracts from it during the week - and wondered if he was mentioned? I know he was wounded and mentioned in despatches.

His name was Lieut (later Capt) Richard H.C. Mottram.

Just to add I now have the War Diary of 6th Battalion York & Lancs for Salerno 1943, all of 1944 and some of 1945.

If you come across this thread and need any info from the diary, post your requests here.

If anyone requires any info on the Hallamshire Battalion of the Yorks & Lancs, I have copies of most of the pages from the the short book written by it's CO during 1944-45. I had to photography the pages in a hurry and sadly a few are blurred.

No problem - I think I copies the list of officers. Will have a look and get back to you. Do you have an interest in this unit and/or Salerno?

I am trying to elaborate an order of battle for Salerno and Cassino down to battalion level, including the names of the Commanding Officers, I have got several divisional Histories, but not for the 46th Division.

I think It was Ltcol DA Kendrew.

    Best regards

I don't suppose anyone on here knows what the elements of the 139 Bde were up to on the 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th of March 1943. From the 2 coldstream war diary it looks as though the entire 1st bde was rushed up to relieve them during the day; suffered heavy casualties in the move as result, and then turned round and went back a day later; handing over to the Para Bde afterwards?

Thanks very much that also cleared up the overall matter I was having locating where the coldstream were (the 1943 north african conflict war diary Really isn't as clear as the italian 1944 one for where they were and why), although I think the location mentioned for the guards is just a guess on that map. They spelt sedjenane wrong in the diary (and Djebel abiod)... it was an easy mistake given the complex names in the area, but it had had me pulling my hair out trying to find these places!

Interestingly, now I know who was involved and what they were doing... it solved a second mystery as to what happened on the 8th (german counter attack) to have the guards rushed into the area a second time.

Hi, I am researching the 6th Bn as my uncle was with them from '39 until they were disbanded in '45. Any chance of a copy of the diary?
