Liking the post text retention/saving too. A lot.
Something that has persistently wound people up in the past now looks to be working beautifully.

    Type something.
    Screw up.
    Go back a browser page.
Even close the entire tab and re-open the thread in a new one.

Text still there, waiting to hit 'Send Reply'.
No idea how persistent it is - how long it saves before losing it, but so far pretty mega.

May be dangerous in it re-presenting rants to you that you'd previously thought better of sending...

Sorry if its been mentioned already and missed it (I've just woken up). Whats the difference between New Posts and Recent Posts?

Can we make the text a font size bigger in posted message...My eyes aren't what they used to be

New posts - The list will gradually empty as you open posts.
Recent Posts - Things you've already read will remain on the list, but greyed out, like before.
    I prefer recent posts.

    Text size - No.
Learn to zoom your browser or increase font size on mobile, old man. :p

  9. Congratulations on the new software! Just when I was starting to get the hang of the previous one :D!

In the old "Follow Thread" (or "Subscribe to Thread"?) function, we could:
    1. Choose to follow anonymously or not
    2. See the list of the other members following the thread (not anonymously of course)
This last function I found very useful, enabling one to check whether a known "specialist" on the thread subject was aware of it or not. If not one could then point the thread to him/her. Any way that this function could be revived?

Also, the default setting for the new "Watch Thread" is "without receiving email notifications", whereas I think the other option "and receive email notifications" should be the default.

  10. Another question/request: is there anyway we can change the font for viewing other members' messages? I find the default font Georgia quite eye-straining o_O. Serifs supposedly make it easier to recognise characters, but for me they just give me headaches.

If not, can you change the default posting font back to Arial please? Members will still have the option to change to another one when posting.:D

    Been looking at fonts today.
Worked out how to change it, but think I'll have a chat with Owen first. He has very strong opinions on typefaces.
I could choose that Tolkien-esque one. Seem to recall he loathes that.

I personally think not being able to see who else is following a thread is a good thing.
Not really anything to do with anyone else if someone chooses to watch something in particular.
Default will stay as no emails too. Single and very obvious one-click selection for those that require the added email notification.

    Hmmm.
More significantly... I hope email notifications are still getting through, or getting through more strongly to those that had the issue with the old server.
    Shall have to test that.

    Hi.

The new forum didn't recognise me, so I had to reset my password, but was able to use my old password! Weird.

How do you get "posts since last visit"?

Any chance of notifications working again?

David, the 'New Posts' menu does that, showing all threads with new posts since your last visit (it does not include recent new posts that you have already seen)

As you scroll through the list of new posts you'll see a message saying that you've got to the end of the posts that are new since your last visit and then it continues showing older threads which have posts in them you haven't read previously.

  15. Thanks! I hope Arial will prevail though! So much cleaner and readable.

Yes, it is a good thing if the "follower" so desires, which was possible with the old system's "Follow anonymously" option. But it was also possible to make it known if you wanted to, which I think it's a good thing too for the reason already mentioned (to be sure that the "experts" are aware of the thread and therefore not flooding them with PMs or emails).

I was thinking about the first-time posters, who usually go for the default because they haven't explored/seen all the various possibilities. Look at the number of first time posters who post an enquiry and are never heard of thereafter, not even replying to the answers to their initial enquiry.
I strongly suspect this might come from their not being aware of the answers, possibly because they posted their question on many different forums and do not remember all of them. Or the answer might come months after their first posting, after they have given up checking the forum regularly.
Please remember that "very obvious" is not quite so for first-time users or elderly ones (I used to be the former and am steadily treading towards the latter...)
Additionally, if we get too many email notifications, one can still change to "no email notification".

All my "Follow this thread" have been maintained, but I suspect that they have been systematically changed to "No email notification" because I get only emails for the threads I "watched" since the Change. Do I have to "Unwatch" them, and then "Watch" them and click the "email notification" option, since I can't find a way to check whether the email notification is on or not?

    Thanks,

    Michel

    Michael,

Click on your user name in the top right corner, select profile, then alert preferences and you can change your default alert preferences.

    Worked for me.

  17. Thanks Mark, but this only manages Alerts (which are visible only when logged in), not Email notifications when a thread is Watched.
There is a Manage Watched Threads button on the All Watched Threads page, but it only offers to Disable email notification or to Stop watching thread. There is nothing to tell me what the current settings of my Watched Threads are

Michel, on the All Watched Threads page there are check boxes next to each thread title.

These can all be checked and at bottom of page is a drop down menu titled 'With selected threads". Here is an option to enable email notification for the selected threads.

Edit: forgot to mention, threads that are set for email notification have the word "email" on the right of thread title in the above list.

  19. Thanks Lee. This takes a little time because one has to tick the Watched threads one by one and I have 8 pages of them, but it seems to work out fine!

    Michel,

Sorry I misspelt your name, bloody Anglo that I am. :)

I am glad to see that Lee has helped you out, and I am taking note so I can check mine.
