Mine appears to be set up OK, just not receiving anything....Yes I'm using hotmail.
Looks like some providers don't like the way the emails are sent out.
Will investigate possible ways I might change that, or if adding us to an email client's safe list will help.
Gmail addresses quite happy so far, but can think of a tweak or two I'll try tonight.
OK, fixed email to my ISP one, but still nothing to hotmail.
I loathe Hotmail. It's crap.
Looks like Hotmail is using that old sledgehammer to build it's server blocking lists, unlike other providers who appear to understand the modern Interweb.
Problem appears to be widespread.
XF 1.5 - Forum emails bouncing back from Hotmail/Outlook.com (Nimbus)
And I've already noticed a few attempts to join not getting activation emails to hotmail.
I'll refer it to the boss, though, to be honest; Hotmail is horrible. Never had a single issue with a Gmail account.
Once had issues with Hotmail and my own website mailing list. After much time wasted trying to sort it, it turned out to be an issue with html formatting it didn't like. Annoyingly I can't remember the exact cause now.
If there's an option of sending the notification emails as plain text rather than html it might worth trying it to see if Hotmail then receives them.
I haven't been receiving anything via Hotmail either....I would change it to a g-mail address but am worried by the slightly sinister warning on the here :- If you change your email, you may need to reconfirm your account.
Does this mean that I could wipe everything ? What does 'reconfirm' mean ? I can confirm facts but I don't understand how I can confirm an account.
Rich - No idea.
I changed it on my test profile (in contact details) and it was fine. Just asked me to enter the forum password in the box below.
It might resend an activation email sometimes I suppose, to confirm the address works.
OK - re-checked. Don't change email to a Hotmail one. Requires resending activation email, and emails not getting through.
Lee, that rings a distant bell.
Will check plain text sending options later.
Gallery setup proper over the next few days. Looks like a really nice system, but need to get all the allowances and permissions squared away.
Might close it for a while if I need to - will announce here if I do.
Well, there's nothing wrong with the Google & SEO type stuff.
Searching for XF info on emails in HTML and Lee's post's already put us on page one of a few searches I've done.
Still no nearer to a 'Hotmail Solution' though, so there ya go...
Shame, was hoping plain text might have fixed it - was a slight long shot though.
If the forum has a previously unused IP address that could cause an issue (unlikely), as can one that has been previously blacklisted for sending spam (more likely). Advice from MS here Troubleshooting
I like the line that appears across the end of the new posts ' since you were here last'.
Little things ...........
I really love the new search engine-I can find all sorts of stuff now.
(Might not have to ask Owen to find old threads now; he could be out of a job. I am sure we can all nag him about something else)
In case people don't notice the rather snazzy, errr, notice at the bottom right of the page:
Closing the forum for a while at 0200 so I can run a few tools in the Media/Gallery area.
I like the "snazzy" notice. Catches the eye quite well.
Must be honest, Mark, I'm liking quite a lot of this setup.
A few niggles, but the flow of WW2 chatter seems to be going on quite nicely.
Definitely. I like the layout, it is extremely easy to navigate.
I will wait a couple of weeks, then come back to you about fixing those internal links in my post mentioned earlier in the thread - let you get your head around things more.
I think the Internal links are going to be the one solidly buggered thing, I'm afraid.
There doesn't appear to be a clever way of fixing them as the two setups construct URLs in completely different ways.
Feel pretty grim about it, but I fear that manual correction will prove to be the only solution there, which is a bit of a nightmare for threads like yours.
That's what I was thinking, I have just been thinking about removing the links and leaving it at that, but I think I shall try the link fix first.
Further apologies about that 2 hour closure.
Ran cache tidying on all aspects of the Gallery/Media area, and it looks suspiciously like a great many personal albums created before the move are now re-associated with people's profiles, have their contents back in place, and 'Album Covers' back up.
(Albums are supposed to show as a link on people's profiles and on that pop-up you get clicking their avatar. Pre-move ones weren't, but appear to be now.)
Still might be some albums that have been worked on post-move that haven't tidied themselves.
It is very very late/early though, so I may just be confused on all counts...
Media>Your Content>Your Albums for a look at what's now what on your own stuff.
Nighty night/Good morning.
Any reason why I have to log in each time I visit?
Is there a "view posts since last visit" feature?
Any chance of receiving notifications?
David, when logging in there's a "Stay logged in" checkbox.
The "New Posts" menu option shows all new posts since last visit in order of most recent. The list of posts will, however, continue beyond your last visit as you scroll back through it - all in date order of last post. At this point is a message that says "Threads below this have not been updated since your last visit but have unread messages".
