Slowly getting used to this and many good points. The one irritation for me is seeing so many posts each time I visit. Sorry if I have missed the answer to this but is there anyway we can get the filter back that lets you just see new posts since last visit, and one that will throw up all unread posts if you want them. There will be reasons people do not read posts and on this system it seems they will always show up unless you open them. Thanks for all the hard work getting this up and running. Brian.

    No chat room ?

    That suits me fine :salut:

Whenever I went into the chat room, it was always immediately followed by a message that said "xxxxxxx" had "Just left the room" and I was left with the feeling that my presence was unwelcome, to say the least

I think that's a software thing: when you load the page it tells you how many people are in the chat room the last time it checked - which could have been minutes ago. It does not then update until you reload the page or a certain time has elapsed and it rechecks.

Similarly, the number displayed on your screen could be out of date by the time you click to enter and then - although they may have left prior to your arrival - as there's now an extra user it rechecks who is present and might display belated 'x has left' messages.

    I think.

    A question for Adam.

I posted here In Memoriam - Those Air Force Pilots/Crews who died on this day in WW2.

then needed to revisit to edit however it did not appear on new posts, nor recent posts however it did on Members, "recent activity"?

Is this because it is an old thread it is not seen as a "New Post"? Previously once posted it went straight to the top and you knew where to find it. Presumably I am doing something wrong!!!

    Cheers

    Geoff

It should show on recent posts, Geoff.
In fact, it is for me, and the test profile.
Maybe just a page refresh glitch?

Still attempting to confirm what final upload limits will be. That mb will grow, but I don't know by how much yet.

Put the 'Remembering Today' code back at the head of the Homepage:
    WW2Talk

Might move it closer to the War Memorials, Cemeteries etc. heading at a later date, but front & centre seemed right for now.

  12. Charley,

Yes, I do agree that having the whole thread displayed would be a nuisance. What I meant however was I think actually called "Display Topics" (and not "View as threads" as I erroneously wrote) in the old software, which used to display only the Topic (old name for "Thread") name, not all the posts in that Topic. Sorry for the confusion, all mine

So do I (fully appreciate differing preferences), and I do not mind having to tick the "receive email notifications" box, but my concern was that first time users might not notice it and therefore become one-time users only .

Excellent Ron, I had not seen this one! You're quite right, this answers my request perfectly.

What I had done so far was using only what I'd call the "Quick search" small window on the top right corner, which initially did not, but now does, show the "Display results as threads" option, which works only when the "Search this forum only" is ticked.

I had not tried the "Search forums" button on the top left!

To sum up, what I found is that the "Display results as threads" ("Threads" for short) option is present or not depending on the Search tool used:

    "Quick search":
    - "Threads" possible when the "Search this forum only" is ticked
    - "Threads" not possible on the More/Advanced search page:
No Threads option from Advanced search via Quick search.jpg
    - "Threads" not possible when on a Results page (from any Search including a member's Content search):
No Threads option from Search results.jpg

    "Search forums": "Threads" always possible

My thanks to the Powers That Be for enabling the "Display results as threads" on most "Quick search" and to Ron who pointed me to the "Forums search" button
    :salut: .

Why are all my letter P's on my Cockermouth thread a smiley.

It does look funny though

    Ah. Smiley code nonsense.
It may be we've gained a weird bbcode for smileys, or possibly the system reading invisible format marks differently to ipb.

On my phone, and for some embuggering reason I can't open admin from here, so I'll fix that later, mate.
