    Hello,

For a friend, John Baldwin, I am looking for information on his fathers B-17 crash during Operation Varsity.
He himself tried to find some info before, which can be seen here:

    http://forum.armyairforces.com/Looking-for-crash-site-of-B17-on-photo-mission-during-Operation-Varsity-m87118.aspx

That discussion became off topic. With the information that we have now, it seems the plane crashed between Xanten and the Rhine River. A German friend points to an area further downstream along the river.

The area was probably full with British forces that supported the crossing of the Rhine. Not being a specialist in British forces, I turn to this forum and hope that someone has knowledge about the British forces who were in the area and if their reports/book/memoirs mention anything about the B-17 crash.

I think Xanten fell 6th/7th March 1945 to a joint British and Canadian attack.

You could ask WW2talk member infocollector. He might be able to help you further.

Sept 2014 visit to operation Blockbuster
I have trip planned for September 2014 staying I Uedem Germany. I'm interested in following the route of the Algonquins in Feb March 1945. I have done extensive research on the battle but wondered if anyone knew of a local historian who might make my 2day trip more time effective. I don't know how many signs of the battle are still left. I'm particularly interested in whether the monastery at Winnenthal is still standing.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
