    JohnG505 Getting there......

The FWR publication showed 1,711,988 records on the 1 Nov 24.

Be interesting to see how many are left after this 'cull'.

    Best,
    John

Just for a minute I thought they were back on FWR. The publication is back and a search on it does give results, then I received this message....

Back up on Ancestry, but without the image of the actual card. I was just researching a new Chindit family enquiry and thought I'd chance it and there he was. :)

That's exactly what I briefly saw on FWR, now they've completely disappeared :-(

Luckily, I was only trying to find out which regiment he was with in India, so seeing the actual card wasn't critical.

Well, once again, I thought they were back. Can actually search the catalogue/collection on FWR (which is at least something) but when you click on the card, you get this......

I just did the same search on Ancestry as post 24 and this time they had the image of the card (address redacted) as well. So, can't be far off returning I would say.

Back again showing 1,711,988 records as it was on 1 Nov 24 which implies some information has been redacted.

Yes, and the card I wanted to see is gone :reallymad: Let's hope they're still figuring things out, not sure why over 50% needed to be taken away.

50% reduction is a big surprise. Far more than I expected....and typically, the one I was waiting for has now disappeared. :banghead:

Timely response to a FOIA question:

"The National Archives and Ancestry became aware that an error had occurred in the process for identifying service personnel’s dates of birth within the UK Army WWII Medal Index Cards collection. Immediate steps were taken to remove all data while the solution to re-instate the collection with only records that were known to include individuals with a date of birth of more than 100 years ago was worked on. As the medal index cards often do not contain DoBs, this requires correlating data with another dataset, which due to the scale of the project takes some time. The maintenance work is still in progress so we expect the number of published medal cards to increase further, and apologise for any inconvenience while this work is taking place."
